Perler Bead Creation

Pixel Kira's Bead Showcase

My first big project β€” the 😍 heart-eyes emoji on an 80Γ—80 grid. Took way longer than expected but totally worth it.

Pattern Notes

Hardest part was the two heart pupils β€” they're tiny and one wrong bead completely ruins the shape. Ended up with 17 colors, mostly because the yellow face needed more tones than I thought to not look flat. Ironed in four sections.

Making Process

In Pixel Kira's own words

I picked this emoji because it’s the one I use most. Figured if I’m going to spend a week placing beads it should at least be something I actually like.

The Studio made the pattern part pretty easy β€” I uploaded the emoji, set the circle grid to 80Γ—80, and it handled the conversion. I went through the colors a few times using the batch replace tool to get from 38 down to 17. The yellow tones took the most tries. You’d think yellow is yellow but apparently there are about twelve of them.

Building it was meditative, honestly. Three or four evenings after work. The hardest moment was realizing around row 55 that I’d misread the pattern for about four rows. Had to pull those out and redo them. The coordinate numbers on the printout saved me from making it worse.

The finished piece is on my desk. My partner thought it was a sticker at first, which I’m taking as a compliment.
